travels with chuck

I’ve followed Sen. Chuck Hagel around a lot over the years. He’s leaving office in January so he took his farewell tour of Nebraska this week. No remarkable pictures, but I’m posting this one because he’s using my Sharpie to autograph this lady’s picture. Come to think of it, he never gave it back.

favorite

This is my favorite of the bunch. In fairness, Hagel has some interesting things to say, but I understand why the young ones might get a little bored.

reflections

One of the Hagel stops was the Scottsbluff airport. In a conference room just off the room Hagel was addressing his well-wishers, I saw this reflection off the table. I would have loved to sit the airport director or even myself in the seat and taken a portrait, but I didn’t have time.

after all this time, finally

I’ve lost count how many times I’ve shot the Husker football team, volleyball team, baseball team, wrestling team — you get the point – out performing community service. However, I can count the number of times they made a picture: One.

I got two frames off before somebody in the room thought they would help me out by turning the light on. This was the first.

Check out these three shows I produced last week about Nebraska Army National Guard members wounded in Iraq.

I only had four days to shoot, collect, edit and assemble them so they aren’t as deep as I would like but considering the time constraint I’m happy with them.

road trip

Headed south to Manhattan for the KSU game on Saturday. Spent the night with Travis at his home in Wichita. Had an excellent dinner at a Latin restaurant and bacon for breakfast — a Travis specialty.

work room

Not the roomiest of accommodations in the KSU press box. Room enough for Heidi to play on my iTrip.

election

A fairly painless election night in terms of work flow.

An impromptu celebration of Obama’s victory passed down O Street with about 100 people stopping on the Capitol steps.

Judy Beutler, wife of Lincoln Mayor Chris Beutler, reacts to Obama’s election.

The guy I was covering, Scott Kleeb, lost his bid for the U.S. Senate. He was more upbeat than this picture may indicate.

does it work?

I tried something different, for me, at the state cross country meet today. I hoped at least one runner would not be blurred while shooting at slow shutter speed. Can you find her? Bigger is better in this instance I suppose. Opinions?
