Roy was transfixed by mama robin when Lolli finaly spotted the baby. (Needless to say, this isn’t going to be pretty so for those of you who are squeamish, it’s time to look away.) Lolli is the stalker, but Roy is more aggressive.

Lolli spooked the baby into the yard and Roy did the deed.

That being said, I had a wonderful vacation back in May to D.C. that included the the National ALS Awareness Day, which is in a previous post, as well as an oustanding visit with Staci.

Pishu (left) and I met in Mumbai, Bombay back then, when I was in India in ’92 or something like that. He lives in Virginia now with his family so Staci and I stopped for a visit.

While we were waiting on Capitol Hill in one of our representatives offices. Staci is always so serious.

Our first event is August 8. It’s a Sunday golf outing of massive proportions. I’m looking for volunteers and people to donate items for auction items and pin prizes.

Our mission statement: The William G. Lauer Foundation gives back to the ALS community by raising funds supporting The ALS Association and organizations providing services for ALS patients and their families. The Foundation also funds research to discover the cause and a cure for ALS and increases awareness in the community on behalf of those battling ALS.

A couple weeks ago I flew to D.C. (boy, are my arms tired), to visit Staci and attend the National ALS Awareness Day. (Pictures of Staci to come in a later post.) 

The Day is an annual event opening with a vigil Sunday night, Monday devoted to education/awareness and Tuesday to lobbying Capitol Hill for funding for specific ALS  priorities. Becoming an advocate and voice instead of an unbiased journalist while dealing with our elected Washington representatives felt odd, but I persevered.

Unfortunately, we did not meet with our actual representatives, May 11 was primary election day in Nebraska, but we did meet with their staffs. Pictured are Shannon Todd, (blue suit), who is with the ALSA in Omaha and has been great to work with,  Dana, who lives in Bellevue and lost her husband to ALS earlier this year, myself and Staci — and assorted Capitol Hill types.

Staci was kind enough to not only escort us while taking pictures but also use her Captiol Hill parking pass making life much easier. Rock Stars, that’s what we were. And yes, I do own a suit.

I only took my point-and-shoot because cameras are impossible to carry for any length of time, like more than a minute, but here’s a few of mine.

Lolli and Roy. Direct from my friend Heidi’s parents ranch in the Sandhills. They were born around Easter and arrived Friday night. Future rapscallions.

I’ll be honest, in this picture I can’t tell who is who. Right now the only way I can tell them apart is Lolli is a bit darker on the shoulder blades. I think Roy will grow larger, but right now they move too damn fast for me to make a distinction.

Joe Duggan organized some co-workers (a terribly inadequte word for people so generous and caring) and gave my yard a makeover. Plantings, re-bedding and even a new driveway.

These pictures hardly encompass the energy and sweat they expended, but they do give a sense of their enormous achievement. Nor is everyone who participated shown.

Ironically, the ALS Association posted this link on Facebook tonight. Extreme Home Makeover will donate one penny for every time this video  is watched.

I’ve never understood why some people freak out over snakes. It’s not like finding a dog turd in the yard.

Despite our best efforts to expose the rampant gambling dice culture gutting the underbelly of Lincoln, we failed. Just a bunch of friends having fun.

Young Jack Gregory certainly caught my eye with his daring coordination of  print and plaid pajama play-wear Sunday afternoon. The truly subtle touch which sets off the entire outfit can’t be seen in the picture — shoes on the wrong feet.

I’m hoping I’ll have some of my own soon — kitties, not tangles.

Swimming outside hasn’t been an remotely appealing for several months. Maybe soon.
