I’d like to thank the ladies for their gracious hospitality in letting Cindy and me come to their monthly bunco soiree.

Despite our best efforts to expose the rampant gambling dice culture gutting the underbelly of Lincoln, we failed. Just a bunch of friends having fun.

Here’s a few pictures that’ve been kicking around awhile that I haven’t posted yet. Some are kinda old, like from February.

Krista came to visit a couple of weeks ago. It was fun to see her again. I slept on my air mattress for a few days. Now I know why Lane doesn’t crash anymore.

Anyone stumbling down north 14th Street in search of another bar stool, unless completely blinded from fermented grains, no doubt has spotted Silas basking in the nightlife ambiance through the window of A Novel Idea Bookstore. Silas passed a few months ago and the LJS published a story about the demise of the iconic kitty.
Cinnamon, owner of Idea, had an idea, proposing that as a memorial for Silas, customers — an impersonal term when applied to characters within a tale of such compassion, so let us call them patrons — could make a donation to either The Cat House or the Capital Humane Society. The organization receiving the most donations is where she would choose the replacement for Silas. Replacement is another vulgar term, so let us replace replacement with: Ongoing, soft, purring, lovable, superior life-force.

The popularity of Silas and his home is evidenced by the response Cinnamon received: More than $4,500 in donations, The Cat House coming out on top.
Pictured is Eddy (and Cinnamon). Eddy’s store-mate is Padric, both of whom are cats, therefore adorable. Eddy has the swagger of a champion killer. He was eyeing a baby pigeon on the sidewalk while I was in the store and nearly escaped a couple of times in a desperate attempt at slaughter. Padric is a tiny, gentle, shy sort, who loves his chin, neck and ears rubbed. Fine additions both to the north 14th Street community.
I seem to have become the official cat photographer for the paper, which is fine because I like cats, Cinnamon and I can read a book, even while slouching on a bar stool.

Spring has been elusive this year. Warm, cool, warm, cold, warm, colder. The dandelions, however, seem to thrive. Heidi waits for the gang to show for a rousing game of wiffle ball at Antelope Park.

No, it’s not the local mosque, or Japanese restaurant, but Gwyneth’s home, where she and Ryan ever so neatly arrange their shoes, and the guests’, by the front door. Seems like a lot of shoes for just two people.

It ain’t green, but we went golfing. Jacob and I took advantage of a spike in temperature to hit the links. What you can’t see in this picture is the 40-mph wind that nearly blew us over teeing-off a couple of times.
I should point out that Jacob is in the ruff to the right of the green, not an uncommon geographic position for his tactical style of play. There is a fairway behind him, just on the other side of that itty-bitty tree. Kind of hard to tell the difference.
All in all, a good day.

I know how much my blog brightens everyone’s lives so I apologize for being remiss in my postings of late. Part of the problem was my computer was getting its oil changed for about a week, the other part was lack of motivation.
However, I am sure you will be delighted to hear I’ve several posts coming this week, including a super-duper special one I’m saving for the weekend. You won’t want to miss it.
Gwyneth assisted me last week shooting two, up and coming Husker pitchers.

I’ve been wanting to use these giant baseballs in front of Haymarket Park ever since they arrived. McNamara used them a couple years ago so I had to do something different. These guys were great to work with, which isn’t always the case with athletes.

There seems to be a trend in the types of pictures I’m taking with my point-and-shoot. Todd is an old 14th Street regular. This is at Duffy’s.

The sweet lass is Rebecca, co-worker Jacob’s sister who was visiting. This is at the Zoo. Quite a night.

I’ve been wanting a point-and-shoot for a long time and finally got one. I didn’t research a whole lot, putting a priority on a 28mm and manuel settings. Ended up with a Nikon. Haven’t played with it a whole lot. This is at 1600 and I worked it a fair amount. Overall, I think it will do the job.

Today was the opening session of the Nebraska Legislature. Ewwwww.
I’m probably the only person in the world who can’t make Anna Jo look fabulous in a picture. She works for AP and I assume she had fun too.

A new year, a new look, blog-wise anyway, since there’s not much I can do about my mug. I added categories because if I didn’t, there was no point is using this way cool theme. Don’t worry. All new posts are displayed up front and you won’t have to go hunting for them. They will be categorized if you want to come back and look at them again, like, maybe for your PhD research or something. The old blog will exist in cyberspace until the Rapture (click the Sower for 2008).
For those of you who like to comment, I am simplifying things. You will not have to register or go through that whole rigmarole anymore. Can’t say that I’ve ever seen inappropriate comments on blogs in general, not even Travis’, so what the hey, keep it simple. This should be expeditious for McNamara, since Michael seems to need to change his password each time he comments.
I was thinking of getting rid of RSS feeds to encourage people to come to my actual site because, heck, I put a lot time into it and would like the gratification. Admit it, you all want people to come to your sites too. I’m leaving them in for now, but we’ll see how it goes. I suppose if I took them away nobody would ever visit my site anyway.
One last thing: I’m including the same links to your sites as my old blog, so if there are any changes, additions or deletions — I can understand how association with me could harm a career – just let me know. I like to be accommodating, as long as it’s convenient.
